English Translation:

The Railway Ministry stated that it has registered over 8% increase in earnings at Rs 70,501 crore during the ongoing financial year ending January 31. This was said barely weeks before the presentation of the Railway Budget. However, the growth was 8.56% between April 1, 2009-January 31, 2010 as Railways earned Rs 70,501.65 crore in comparison to Rs 64,943.32 crore it earned during the same period last year. The Budget which will be presented on February 24 is expected to focus on raised public-private partnership to expend railway network and seek increased fund allocation for expediting ongoing railway infrastructure. Meanwhile, the total goods earnings rose from Rs 44,035.66 crore to Rs 47,763.29 crore during this period while the passenger earnings also increased from Rs 18,057.41 crore to Rs 19,393.26 crore. Consequently, the growth in goods earnings was registered at 8.47% while the growth registered in passenger earnings was at 7.40%.

On foreign fund outflows from the weak equity markets amid strengthening of the US currency against other units, the rupee declined marginally by 2 paise against the US dollar in early trade. However, at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market, the rupee fell by 2 paise to 46.75 a dollar, extending its previous trading day's losses. The local unit had ended sharply lower by 48 paise to a five-week low at 46.73/74 on Friday. Meanwhile, weakness in Asian currencies against the dollar and subdued trend on the stock markets mainly put pressure on the domestic currency. On the other hand, the BSE index Sensex was down over 95 points, or 0.59%, in opening trade.

The MoU provides for migrating all existing links of the bank from conventional point-to-point connectivity to MPLS-VPN connectivity. IDFC Mutual Fund has declared dividend under dividend option in Plan A & B of IDFC Arbitrage Fund and IDFC Arbitrage Plus Fund. The record date for dividend has been set as February 11, 2010. The quantum of dividend will be Rs 0.02 per unit for IDFC Arbitrage Fund while Rs 0.06 per unit for IDFC Arbitrage Plus Fund. Dividend is subject to availability of distributable surplus as on the record date. All the investors whose names appear in the register of unit holders as on the close of February 11, 2010 will receive dividend. The investment objective of IDFC Arbitrage Fund and IDFC Arbitrage Plus Fund is to generate capital appreciation as well as income by predominantly investing in arbitrage opportunity in the cash and derivative segments of the equity markets and the arbitrage opportunity available within the derivative segments and by investing the balance in debt and money market instruments.
